I have seen alot of things go wrong with starters and ignitions but my starter is stuck trying to start!!. The ignition will turn everything off in the truck and allow the key to come out but the truck is still trying to start?!?!?! I had to discconect the battery and alt to get it to stop. The starter was changed in the past 4 months and alt so does that mean its an ignition problem most likely?? I need to get this going again I have kids and need my truck!!

 

Sounds like the ignition switch and/or the key is worn out. Might pull out the switch and try cleaning things up inside. Insert key, turn slightly while pressing on the release button below on the column and pull it out:

ok give her a try. Thanks crawler ur always on point with the response and they usually work out. you rock!! ill update later after workin on it. its already 90 so im lookin at a hot job in a parking lot yeaaaaaa lol

 

so i played with the ignition and it seems to work fine all the lights opperate like they should but now just one click when it trying to start seems like a dead battery but its still got alot of juice. any idea there? is my ignition toast?

Sometimes if the starter is shorted out, it will crank with the key out and ignition off. My husbands 83 did it, changed the starter and it stopped. If you were to try to crank it, does it crank slow like it's really cold ?
