San Diego---Carveacre this Sunday (1/11)??

Hello San Diego Wheelers--how about a Sunday afternoon fun run to Carveacre??

For those who haven't been there, it is a challenging, but short (10 miles) trail near Alpine.

We usually meet up at the Carls Jr on Tavern Rd off the 8 frwy.

Newbie friendly?

Just plain friendly?

Darx: Hopefully Carsten will come, it was his very first run. He has a stock 5spd 4x4 4runner. He did great!
I've actually run this trail more times stock, than I have with the lift. It's definitely my favorite local trail, because 1. its close to home 2. Its fun and as hard as you want to make it. 3. I've taken stock and built trucks up there and they even have a good time.

Just go!!
Don't you have new coilover setup? What are you worried about?
You got to get those tires in the dirt sometime.

We are the most active on this site. We need more people from SD to join us in our fun--carvacre. Anza, etc. There is so much we have not done yet in our area. Maybe we should have a little BBQ, invite the family, and plan some stuff for the new year.

I am half-way in.

We are going out of town for a couple of days to explore the backcountry up around Santa Barbara and Big Sur.

We're coming back Saturday so it all depends on how early you guys go and the such.

blupaddler,
When youre up around Santa Barbara, I would reccomend checking out the West Camino Cielo trail. It goes along the ridgeline above western Santa Barbara. The trail itself is extremely easy compared to Coyote Canyon and the views are incredible. I posted some pics and directions on the 4runner board.

Great!!! So its our first time out on the trails. My friend is pretty much stock and I just got a lift. I'm just wondering what we should bring besides a spare tire, on this trip. Btw, when and where are we meeting up at? Last time I read, off of Hwy 8 @ Carl's Jr. near the casino, unless changed otherwise.

We will meet at 2pm at the Carls Jr at Tavern Rd. Make sure your truck is trail worthy--check tires for nails, check fluids etc. If you have a CB or FRS radio, great. It will be nice to meet some new faces, and you will like this trail.

I'll be attending this run.

It's going to me about an hour to get down there so I'll probably leave about noon to make sure in case there's any traffic. MapQuest says it's about 51 miles to the Carls Jr.

I don't have CB or anything else for wheelin' but the truck is in good shape.

See you there!

Well, it looks as if I will not be able to join you guys. I would love to but I have some work that needs to get done around the house

and to top it off my truck is overheating now

But...off topic...Phalanx thanks for the heads up, we went right instead of left(on purpose) out to the Hot springs

So...unless things get fixed I won't be seeing you. Have a fun and safe trip.

Well todays run was really good. I had to get back to Santee by 4:30 so I missed all the breakdown action, and trail repairs. After driving to a spot to fix his truck, (on his bumpstops) Brandon came by my house on his way home, he replaced the broken coilover assembly with his old Downey/bilsteins until his get fixed. You can't stop the Mighty Toyota! Got off the trail under his own power.

Heres a pre-breakdown pic, his is the Tacoma-

Heres the group shot-

The rest of the pics I got are in the link in my sig.
Marc: Be sure to post a link to the pics you got while doing the trailside repairs

I was very suprised by this breakage. Brand new setup, failed. Luckily we were able to use Josh's hi lift to pick the side up to relieve the tension of the spring pushing on the brake line and cv joint. Lucky for Brandon the brake line was only loosend and we were able to tighten it up. The cv boot is all torn up, but it didnt look like bearings were damaged. It was also lucky he had a smaller spare because with the 32 on it would not rest on the bumpstops.

We didnt really get any pics of the repair, only of the broken shock.

I wonder if others have had problems with this setup.

I forgot to ask Brandon what setup he had. It looked liked Fox Racing?

CARVEACRE CARNAGE

Heres the pics I took, there are some repair pics but no real detal of the carnage. I must say, I LOVE this trail. Maybe next time we could slow the pace down a little and take a few more action shots.
