everything dead but headlights

my brother in laws 97 4 runner that had been parked for some time needed a new battery. He installed and now all that works is the head lights. nothing else. I didn't install it so maybe he touched the terminal's in the wrong polarity for a moment. Not sure. What I am sure of is that only the head lights are getting power now, nothing in the ignition starter etc. Is there a main fuse that could be out? if so where is it. thanks mr wizzard

I not sure about a 97 model, but did fix one on a 91 22re model that had the same thing happen to it. It was the 80 amp fuse that got blown. This might get you going in the right direction.
