93 pickup 3.0 timing
a while ago my distributor was pulled out and aout 5 of the teeth were missing off the gear..i put a new one in and cant find the right spot for it to fire..ive brought the engine to top dead center several times and placed the rotor in the cylinder ones position still no luck even adjusting the distributor while cranking over..i just could use any help on how to figure out which cylinder the engine is trying to fire ..thanks

You might have the distributor 180 degrees off. Remember, it turns once for every two turns of the crank shaft. You may have to give the crank shaft another turn, bring it back to TDC, and align the distributor.
I learned this the hard way on my 91 4runner 3vze. I had the distributor 180 degrees off for the above reason. After cranking the engine for about a minute, I needed a new muffler, and a new pair of pants! BOOM!!!!

i agree with 180 off on dist, also double check the inside of cap to make sure you are lining it up as the cap does divert through several chanels crossing over. Have you checked the cam to see if the damage done to dist damaged the gear protion of cam. a quick way to check would be to removed dist cap and crank engine and see the rotor turns smoothly or at all. had a bearing on dist sieze and shoved gear down shaft to where it is not contacting the cam gear

yea i ve been puttin the gear a tooth back to align it correctly ill have to give the 180 flip a try and i checked the cam gear when my distributor was out it feels fine, and from what i could see looks okay..my old distributor on the other hand the gear was as sharp as a razor blade it was pretty beat lol

helps to find tdc. take out the #1 spak plug and turn the engine over using a rachet, 19 mm socket i think. The compression stroke will push more air out. I used the air line from a compression gauge, use you thumb and cap the air line.
From there fine tune by lining up the timing mark to zero degrees. Then insert the distibutor while lining up the marks on the distributor and the gear with the mark on the engine.
If the engine doesn't run, your out 180 degrees, turn the engine till the timing mark comes back around to 0 degrees.

If you belt timing jumped for what ever reason I recommend replacing belt instead of realighnining it. There has to be a resin it skipped. Google a procedure I can't find one at the moment as im on my phone. If you found one before I get off work or someone else posted link before then, otherwise ill find one tonite
