I dont know much about car upkeep other than I take my 99V6 2wd Runner in every 5K miles like the good toyota book says. I have 74K on it and the last time I took it into the dealer, they suggested $200 of additional things/servicing to be done. I tend to be skeptical so I am trusting the valued opinions of you...to let me know if their recomendations are more than simply money making strategies.

I got the Green Maintenance service...in addition they recommended
-Fuel Filter
-EFI Flush (not even sure what this is)
-Brake Fluid Flush

Seems hard to believe that if you follow the Toyota Manuel, you should need extra servicing.

Go to your local auto parts store such as Autozone

1- Fuel filter Should be located on the inside of the frame under the driver side. You can pick up a filter for $5 to $10 or you ca clean you existing one with a gas additive. To do this treatment you just add the small amount of fluid to a full tank of gas.

2- EFI You can clean your injectors by getting a gas additive. They range from $2 to $25, usually the more expensive the better.

3- Brake Fluid You can buy a simple po man's kit for $3 or get a fancy brake bleader for $50. The brake fluid is $2 to $5 a bottle.

The most it would cost is $40 w/o bleeder and $9 is the cheepest.
You can pick up a manual at the store for $15 and it has become my freinds many of nights.

 

don't know what an EFI flush is

Brake fluid is good a good thing, might not hurt to do pads at the same time

Fuel filter only if you have a problem. (not absolutely sure on this one, but pretty sure)

But definitley do a complete trans fluid flush too

 

yes, do the brake flush and the tranny flush (not just drain/refill - search the forum for what a real tranny flush is)

Don't bother with fuel filter or EFI flush; all brands of gas have sufficient detergents to keep injectors clean, and as Hyperlite points out a little hesitation can usually be fixed by OTC products. There are legit reasons to professionally flush EFI but it's for serious problems - at 74K I doubt you have one. FYI my 89 Supra has never had EFI flush and still kicks a**.

 

To give your whole fuel system a good cleaning get a can of BG's 44K ($18-$20+ ),add it to your gas and run it down and then change your fuel filter.

 

Just get the oil change. Don't change the fuel filter until 100K miles, like Hyperlite says add injector cleaner for your EFI and brake flush wait until your pads are changed. When was the last time you had the transmission and coolant flushed?
