85 4Runner rear seat Question

Ok so i picked up a 1985 4runner that has the coveted rear seat delete. Only problem is i want a rear seat. I am going to keep the pannel incase i go camping and want to sleep in the truck or need to haul alot of gear. The big question is do any other year seats fit in the truck once the pannel is removed? I have can find 2 gen runners at pull a part but a 1st gen is very rare around here in ky. i searched high and low on this subject and have found no real answer.

I don`t think any other seats will fit. Try calling the Yota Yard (google search), there in Denver and have just about any toyota part you could ever need, tell them you need the rear seats and all of the mounting brackets and bolts, they should be able to help you out. I have bought parts from them before and they have good prices.

Actually there is a thread around here that shows putting 2nd gem seats in. The only issue iirc is the seat back latch lining up.

fyi: the rear seats are designed to fold down flat. the bottom cushion folds forward and the backs fold down to be even with the floor of the bed. the seat backs have a metal panel back. so you won't need the delete panel for simply camping or carrying gear. i've slept in the back of mine plenty, with an air mattress, a futon, and just blankets, all no problem.

now, if you plan to put something heavy in the back, like a 4wheeler or loads of gravel, then the delete panel would be worth having and going thru the trouble to swap back in.

you might consider working a trade for some nice SR5 stitched seats or something, with someone who wants the delete panel and has nice seats they don't want to risk destroying. i've seen the SR5 seats like I have in tan, grey, and blue. (the blue is cool!)

you have a very good point i wonder if i could get front buckets and rear seat for this pannel. I have a 2010 tundra crew make for all my heavy hauling needs . And the runner i got have a bench front seat.

here ya go

this will give you an option if you can find a ragged out 1st gen rear seat. All you need are the frames and the hardware from the 1st gen. Then swap the cushions from the clean 2nd gen.
