22RE starter grinds in cold weather

22RE starter grinds in cold weather
Hello, the starter on my 1989, 22re grinds on the first twist in cold weather. It starts fine on the second twist however this only happens when the temp drops below 32 degrees. Am I due for a new starter? Has anyone else experienced this also???? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
