PLEASE HELP: battery charge and parking brake light on.

okay guys youve saved me in the past i hope you can this time too. i went wheeling yesterday and after hitting a water/mud pit (not very deep). my parking brake and battery charge light came on in the dash. i just figured things got a little wet and it would go out later. well it did go out after i hit another one but it came back on after hitting some bumps. so i drop off my friend and when i use my headlights to go home the radio turns off, the headlights are super dim, and if i turn them off the radio comes back on. so i get home and figure i knocked an alternator wire loose. nope its good and now my battery is DEAD. its on the charger so i can use it if i have to. but i REALLY need this to get fixed. my brake MC has a slow leak so i figured topping it off would do away with the parking brake light, but NOPE. its still on and so is the charge battery light. the wiring for both o into the same area but i checked all the plugs around them and they look good. please guys give me some ideas on what this could be. im thinking a connection somewhere is bad but i can find any. i need somewhere to start. if you have any questions just ask and thank you for alll your help.

P.S. this is my DD that i need to get to school with.

You fried your alternator.

Replace it, and don't hit anymore water holes

Its a built it "Hey something is wrong" feature. The brake and charge lights come on at the same time.

Oh okay I see thanks for clearing that up. Well this blows. About how much is a denso refurb from autozone? And would that be the best option?

if you didn't fry the voltage regulator (internal to the alt) you might get away with just putting new brushes in it. There is an alt rebuild thread on here somewhere. I have an OEM on here that I need to try this on. I don't like hitting mud/water holes with mine without a backup alt.

Happened to me, too, Brandon(Creek Bed with Mud).... Also happened in that video, ...in my build thread, .... as I was recording for some info/reference("lil poof of smoke", brake light and charge light on, ....DONE" lol)

If you do buy one, Sebastian, I found Napa seemed to have the best quality ones I could find for the money, all Denso Replacement parts, Rebuilt in the USA, etc. 99$ with the 20% member card?

I've had that light problem for 10 years, off and on. Just posted about it on Saturday. New Alternator on my new engine. Still happens, so Alternator isn't always it. Since you got it wet it probably is though. I second what chef said, go napa for replacement. I usually hate napa but I got a crap Alternator from both autozone and oreilly. Broken parts, stripped holes, just crap. Napa power supreme was about 10 bucks more but higher quality. Hope you have better luck with your light problem then I've had.

Id just switch to a chevy single wire alternator. I did it last summer and after 3 toyota alternators going out the chevy one has worked the best. there are brackets to make the chevy alt work on your yota on Trailgear.

You listen here, ....that's a BAD CHICKEN RIGHT THERE^^^^ I should know, I'm a Chef! hahaha. Jk, couldn't resist,...and I Know, bad, whatever, lol. Anyway, yes, that is an option, OP. I only went with the Napa because my buddy who's there let me return my O'Reilly one there for a return. Either way, all I'd have gotten was another alternator, so I went with the Aisin Parts one at Napa. The problem with the Autozone, O'reilly, etc. models?(aside from the diff. in quality from the mexico/china parts and Aisin?) THEY SLEEVE THE PIVOT CHANNEL! So, when you go to put in the aftermarket one in that slot in your motor mount ..... YEAH, at least in my case, I HAD TO GRIND IT DOWN to get it to fit! lol. PITA, for what?... an O'Reilly Alternator?

I think the Chevy idea SOUNDS like one of the best mod/upgrades out there, for the money.... I looked into the Green Machine(whatever it's called), and I"M SURE they're great...but 400$??? YEAH, sure, true enough, "why not put in the best quality?" etc., true enuf!... but "400$?!?!?!?!"<< That was me at the time, after going broke on this build, etc., lol.

Hey, Badchicken, ...any idea on heated 02 Mods? Can't seem to get a straight answer, ...(heard Escort; 91-94.... ?????) lol. Mini-thread-jack over! lol.

B, ....is that from something like "dealerdirectparts.com" or "toyotapartszone.com" or something like that? $174? that CAN'T be the 40% off we usually get from those sites, ...right??? Just curious.

My Napa Premium, lifetime guarantee, all Denso Inner Important Parts, 98$. Working GREAT!

Aftermarket Denso's are just as good. Practically OEM IMO. I've had minor issues with the lifetime one from autozone, but I think everyone can figure out why. lol.

DC..... Was just messin cuz of how it got re-started here, lol.

I've used them before, DC, ....and most of the "Trade Motion" sites are the same, ...but for some reason, I always get a cheaper deal from dealerdirectparts.com.... But, I've only shopped for around 10 purchases.... So I have bookmarked that link, will check it out next time, as ddp.com caused a PITA problem for me last time! lol.
