87 4runner totalled, picking up 88

on my way to work on monday someone slid out heading the other direction and hit me head on. my 87 4runner is totalled. i just rebuilt the 22re with cam head and kit from ted about a month ago. i spent about $1400 on parts and machining, not to mention the time i put into it, just to have this moron hit me.

i am picking up an 88 sr5 next week but i was wondering if anyone knows if i can fix up my 87 and re-register it in ny. i tried asking the adjuster and he was very vague about it, he just said it was to old or something. if i cant i will probly just keep it for parts, or make it into a strictly trail/mud truck. any help or insight? im just confused haha. thanks

totalled means cost more to fix than its worth. This does not mean has to go to scrap yard, if ny is like arizona all u have to do is take to mvd put it through a level 3 vehicle insp. and if it passes, you can return title to a normal title status.

its not terrible, worst part is the radiator core support is mangled. one person i asked said something about a state inspection it has to pass. i guess i have to look into it more. i got a deal on a real clean 88 sr5 for $1300 so i put a deposit on it yesterday. it came with a brand new set of studded snow tires on spare rims too. i think i'll have to park my 87 until the summer when i have some time to work on it and try and fix it up. if anyone from ny has more info on the state inspection or whatever i have to do please enlighten me. thanks

i dont have any good pics of the damage. his nissan got it way worse than my 4runner. damaged parts include hood, fender, bumper, grill, lights(head, blinker, side) and the front clip that the radiatior mounts to. i drove back to my apt, unlike him. im scrolling through the classifieds now looking for parts but havent found anything in my area. i guess if i can get it back to my old mans house i can put it in the garage, pull the front apart and go at it with pry bar and hammers.

my brother had an 84 4x2 got the whole front end caved in and we used a come-a-long to pull the rad supports back out. ok i know ur on the other end of the country than me, but "toyota salvage" in phoenix arizona 602-437-1222, has an awsome (rust free) slection of parts. i got 1 hood 2 4x4 fenders a grill and a bumper plus valence for about 220 bucks
