no NE signal at ECU

I need some extra eyes on this. 89 4runner 22re

I'm not throwing error codes, but I get a bad misfire intermittently after warm up.

Going through FSM testing (page FI-85 of the 88 fsm), with the connectors at the ecu unplugged, I get no connectivity between e1 and ne, when it should be between 140-180ohms.

Tests that pass

- My dizzy itself passes the 140-180ohm test at it's connector.
- e1 connector at ecu shows 0 resistance to body ground.
- I tested the black/red between the igniter and the ecu connectors and it has 0 resistance.
- I opened up my igniter and verified connectivity between the individual wires from the distributer to where they connect under the igniter cover.
- I did the same from the igniter to the ecu connector.

Tests that fail (0 connectivity between)

- e1 to ne at ECU connectors
- e1 at ecu connector to ne at igniter connector

Is there something I'm missing or has my igniter failed and is not sharing the NE signal to the ecu? Is this a common fail?

My truck is still running, but intermittently runs really rough.

Good read on the toyota spark advance.

Thanks for the read!

Did you ever figure this out?

Or to someone reading this. It the NE-E1 test at the ECU connectors a resistance test? because when I do it on mine I get nothing

And I am having the same issues at the OP except I am dealing with a 85 toyota pickup 22re

I'm having the same issue on my 1985 4Runner (no resistance at Ne to E1 and a slightly rough idle). I know this thread is old but it's the only one like it on the Internet and I'm out of ideas. Continuity is good from ignitor Ne1 connector to ECU. All other E1 resistance tests are ok so it can't be the E1 wiring.

Anyone here have any updates to share?
