just wanted to get some input from you guys on here im looking into a few options. im a homeowner and i need some hauling capability. i have a built 97 4runner but it aint no pickup. i have a 10 month old so i need 4doors.

1. keep the 4runner with 200k+ and get a utility trailer and make rv acess to store on the side of the house.

2. sell the 4runner and buy a 01-04 tacoma double with cash.

3. sell 4runner and buy an 05+ tacoma double cab and finance a 1/3 of it.

4.keep 4runner and buy beater truck for the hauling needs.

5.sell the house and 4runner get a bicycle and pocket the cash???

haha but seriously...been racking my brain on the smartest choice financially, reliability wise and fun wise. thanks for the input.

 

what about selling the 4runner and getting a tundra 4 door? i have heard that the Tacoma 08 and newer have really bad gas mileage, other thing i would do is keep the 4runner and just get a trailer.

plausable, but you might have to fix er up a lot. could get costly

then how you gonna haul your stuff? oh wait, you wouldnt need to any more. ahaha.

 

meh im not a fan of the tundra's too big for my liking. i thought the newer 05+ taco's got like 18-20 mpg?

 

4runner blow up?! are you qeustioning toyota reliability on a toyota forum? haha 200k is alot i agree. i do have a chance to pick up a supercharger for cheap for the 3.4

 

friend of mine had bought a new one couple yrs ago and he was only getting 13mph and that was strait from the dealer when he bought it. he ended up trading it back in cause he couldn't afford gas and truck payment.

 

I have had 5 toyota trucks over the last 25 years...none of them have ever been mileage champs.
my 05 Taco on 285's and stock gears got about 15-17 combined mpg.

if you get an 01-04 double cab or an '05+ DC short bed you are still gonna need a trailer, the bed is just too short to haul much as far as home improvement junk like 2x4's and sheet rock. One advantage to the '05 Tacoma DC's is the rear leg room is nice.

not to shoot you down, but you are not gonna get a ton of cash for a 15 year old truck with 200K on it

 

thats a valid point on the double cab bed size, i did get a few bites on my runner a couple weeks ago on craigslist i got offered 7k wich aint bad...

 

well then you should take the 7k for it. and look at getting a new rig.

 

thats awesome input and everything, but i was hoping someone that has had a similiar situation would chime in with thier experience...
