Almost as rare as the fabled Toyota Hilux stretch limousine.

Don't know about the fusion, but here is a crew cab HILUX directly from South America to the US. Was originally a diesel.

I have seen them used as U.S. Special forces vehicles, I saw about 5 of them being shipped overseas all armored up and done real nice.

It Looks Just Like the White One Above, all Black with Silver Fusion Stripes, also has the Stock Longbox !! Good Candidate for Either a 3.4l or the 4.3l Vortec !!

Never seen that before, but I do have a pic of an 84?-88 model double cab that I took from some website a while back, think it may have been wikipedia.

Looks a whole heck of a lot better than those custom cab (is that what they were called) trucks, ya know the ones that looked like someone stuck the back of a chevy cab up against a Toyota cab and welded them together.

Yup, that's where it was Brian. I kept thinking that thing is way too clean and way too rare to be wheeling it.

It probably isn't registered so he has nothing else to do with it except wheel. I don't see any license plate. The Hilux was built to a completely different set of safety standards than American cars. Addressing each safety standard, then getting the paperwork to properly import and register one of these is an absolute bear; like, the mother of all bears.

You don't see a lic plate because PA doesn't require one on the front, and yes it was titled, insured and registered. I believe it also had a 4.3 swap, but not 100% sure on that. You can also see a faint outline of the PA state inspection and emission stickers in the windshield on the driver side. You cannot get those without being registered, titled and insured.

Oh, then I stand corrected! But it's still the mother of all bears to get one of those registered. Kudos to him for getting it done!

when deployed overseas in the mid 90's had the opportunity to buy and '84 Double cab and bed for around $1000...it would have been awesome to have been able to to do it...

importing a gray market cars are expensive to ...having DOT approved glass cut, door impact beams
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_import_vehicle
"In 1998, NHTSA granted vehicles over 25 years of age dispensation from the rules it administers, since these are presumed to be collector vehicles.[2] It is also possible to certify the car though a Registered Importer for DOT work and an Independent Commercial Importer for EPA work.[3] Those who import nonconforming motor vehicles sometimes bring in more than one car at a time to spread the cost of the necessary destructive testing, modification, and safety certification. Destructive crash testing is not always needed if the vehicle can be shown to be substantially similar to a model sold in the US. "

Blackwater had a few interesting Toys...

But they get/got special consideration.

One was spotted on a trail somewhere on the East Coast... I forgot but IIRC the pic and short article was in Petersen's 4Wheel and Off-Road.
