OEM CD player questions and recommendation (for 2000 limited 4rner, 4X4 auto)

%% Maybe it has been discussed before, but could not find the exact answer in the forum. If you have any link that can help my problem, that will be great of course! %%

Ok! it is 2000 limited 4X4 Auto 4Runner. the CD player is not working anymore although radio/tape player still working fine. That 2000 limited model has one-piece unit of CD/Radio/Tape player all together. Therefore, I believe I have to replace with double-din size aftermarket unit (if I can not repair the cd player part of the unit).

Questions are,

1. if I replace OEM CD/Raido with aftermarket, is it going to disable any of factory alarm/remote/immobilizer?

2. what is the best aftermarket model that I can easily replace.
Pineer? Alpine? I do not need fancy or superior sound quality than OEM. As long as it is close to OEM sound quality (with functioning CD), I will be happy.

3. do I have to replace amplifier also?

Consider I am a newbie on Car audio/cd etc although i am not a newbie on car electronics as well as car repair etc.

Thank you in advance. and have a great day!

My old OEM radio looked double din, but once I removed it it actually had a radio/tape deck above a CD player unit.

You can replace it with a single din headunit and put a pocket in instead (I just did). A pioneer DEH-2200 can be had for less than a hundred (Check Amazon). Can be used for USB/ipod and got an AUX port also. U can find install instructions on yotatech.

Can I connect iPhone or iPod to OEM radio

Pardon me for jumping, but I am a new user. I have a 2000 4runner limited with a model AD6803 radio. I want to be able to add a connection to play music from my iPhone. I have heard both sides. Can be done ...Can't be done. I do not want the FM modulated or cassett deck substitutes. Is there a way using the existing AD6803 OME radio? If not is there an OEM model radio from a later Toyota that will fit properly in the dash in keeping with the OEM look but will have updated electronics to allow a connection for the iPhone? The AD6803 does not have the 6 CD changer. It only has the AM/FM/CD with Cassett. If I get an OEM radio with 6 CD changer will this allow me to add iPhone hook up? I need HELP for the experts, I know you are out there. Thanks

i replaced my wife's 2k 4runner stock radio/tape/cd double din with a single din alpine with iPod controller some years ago.

i bought the alpine through crutchfield and they included the radio to stock wiring harness and the pocket that will fill in the remaining space.

you will have to remove the existing amp... all power will come from the after market head unit of your choice as most have an amp built-in.

this is what i pulled out...

also, factory alarm was not affected.

[edit] my pic isn't loading from photobucket. hopefully it displays soon.

adding ipod/mp3 input to a stock radio is doable.

if your stock head unit has a port for a cd changer you can purchase something like this...

this version adds both iPod support and a generic stereo in for any mp3 player.

to activate it you simply hit the cd button twice.

Your photos never displayed. I guess I will have to take the unit out just to see exactly what kind it is and what the ports look like. Maybe it has a CD changer port. Otherwise I guess I will be looking for one that has the CD changer port so I can plug in a harness for my iPhone.
