Question The Daihatsu Rocky? Anyone know much about them

A lady I work with has a 91 Daihatsu Rocky that her daughter bought new, it has a hard top AC and 140,000 all street miles. For those young guys on here here is a link to what Im talking about!

She wants it gone and I’m seriously thinking about buying it to run around in. It has a 1.6l 4 cyl and a 5 speed with a manual transfer case. Its silver and from the road looks to be in good shape. I know they haven’t been sold since 92 and I’m sure parts probably are not too easy to get. Does anyone have any experience with them?

They remind me of the Suzuki Samurai's. A friend of mine had one, great gas mileage. The only thing is, parts are going to be hard to find and they are kind of cheaply built. The build quality is just not there. With that being said, my friend had his for a few years without any problems.

Edit: forgot to mention they are SLOW and they rust easily so not unlike our Toyotas lol

Yeah, I just got off the phone with her, it does only have 140,000 miles but has been sitting for a year, though it is tagged and inspected. It doesnt have AC like I was told and she is asking $1200 for it, which in my opinion is just too high, the BBook is about $800 which was about what I was thinking.... I might stop and take a look at it and see if she will come down but without AC its not worth 1200 to me, not when I can buy a 1st gen 4Runner for that

There's no way i'd pay $1200 for that especially when the BB on it is $800. I'd print out the BB and show her. Be like look, it's not worth what you're asking. And see if you can haggle her down from there. But honestly, i wouldn't buy one, find yourself a nice Toyota 1st gen 4Runner or 1st or 2nd gen Pickup. Way more reliable and a helluva lot cooler IMO.

From: Nashville TN. I can help you if you're close BUT NOBODY CAN HELP YOU IF YOU DON'T FILL YOUR LOCATION IN!
I'd save my money for a 2door SWB Trooper.

That way you'd have the frame for a Toyota SFA swap and you can throw a Toyota DT in there and have a sweet (Lj)70 Series look-a-like

There are quite a few of them here also and the look pretty neat but for 1200$ (or even 800$) I'd keep my eyes out for a 1st gen 4runner.
