Ok I've had enough of frozen butt when I drive my truck in the cold. Even with the heater going full bore the bottoms of the doors get crazy cold and that cold goes right to my rear. I haven't pulled the doors apart yet (trying to finish up a colder air intake in the fender) but when I do I want to be able to put some insulation in there. Anyone done this? Any recommendations? Dyna mat? Spray in something?? Anything?????

Edit: Sorry I was mistaken, he was installing sound deadener not insulation.

I'd think even some sound deadening stuff would help with the cold. It just drives me bat poop crazy to have a frozen butt when the rest of me is sweating trying to fight the cold. I'll look into his build thread if I can find it and see what he's doing. Thanks for the help!

 

No prob, I just edited my previous post to the part you'd be interested in... Another thought is to check the weather-stripping on the bottom of the doors I can see daylight through mine with the door closed (I should fix that).

 

Will check it out, thanks again. My weather stripping is good its just that the entire bottom half of both doors get cold enough that you don't want to touch them. It makes it a pain on long trips up into the hills for camping and fishing.

 

i would try putting some sort of insulation in the doors first and see how that works out. even something as simple as stuffing a towel between you and the door could help. there are a few products similar to dynamat without the price tag and are sticker-backed for easy application. not only would it help insulate, but help deaden sound which is always good. if that doesn't do it then the next best thing (or better) might be to add in some sort of heated seat kit. you can find some of them for around $75 per seat and i believe there are even heated seat covers available so you don't have to make them permanent. we have butt warmers in our LC and they are quite nice - especially since they heat up well before the heater starts cranking out warm air.

 

here's an even cheaper option on Amazon - looks like it would work pretty well and you could swap it between vehicles. Dang...I think I need some of these now.

Check JC Whitney they have insulation that is fibre with Al on one side. It does work it is sound and cold. Like they said some heavy weight towels cut up will work. Good Luck

 

Hey man, hit up Jason and ask him what he used. He got it at home depot and it was cheap. It might have been more for a sound deadner than and insulator...anyways, it's peal and stick stuff!

 

Ricky, I used peel and seal insulation on the door skin itself. But the air must be coming through the bottom drain holes.

Awilson.013 showed me the peel and seal. Same specs as dynamat, comes in 6"x15' rolls from Lowe's for $15 a roll. I did the doors with 2 layers. Worked great. Cut down on road noise, and door shuts with a solid thud now. :proud4runnerparent:
