3.0 Intake build idea...

So I wanna put together an intake for the 3.0 that will:

1. Feed from a snorkel
2. Also feed from a switchable cold air feed.
3. Delete the sound dampener
4 generally clean up the engine bay.

I want to start with this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-95...#ht_2573wt_886

Anyone ever use this one? The price sure is right. Makes the FPIK look silly.

The hilux snorkel: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyot...#ht_1880wt_841

A switchable PVC valve that will plumb to fresh air either in the fender well or behind the headlight.

So my main problem I see is going to be building a new airbox, anyone have some ideas for this?

Looking at that kit it looks like it would move the airmeter way back from the stock location. You'd have to fab up some kind of mount for it.
The snorkels are just plumbed into the stock airbox so going to a full cold air/cone filter would not be possible unless you fabricated a custom airbox that would house the cone filter with the snorkel plumbed into that. It is doable but would the box negate the gains of a cone filter?
You might be better to just do an ISR mod but leave the stock airbox in place with the snorkel attached and a K&N drop in filter.

probaby not. You could always check out junkyards and find something that may work...OR fab your own....

You wouldn't have to move it too far back from where it was. But some sort of mount on the fender well would be needed.

Here's another kit that shows what I mean. It reuses the stock intake air hose, but an ISR/CAI tube would also work the same way.

If that thing just plugs into the airbox: ISR, drop a k&n panel in, and forget about the cone and silly valve.

I don't see the point of this setup?

Trust me, neither do I.

That was just for demonstration purposes. To show that you can use the flange to connect the VAFM directly behind the filter.

Instead of having it connect to the pipe, and then connecting it to the filter. Like the setup this pic depicts. Which I don't see the point of either.
