Question What is the best / proper off the shelf ATF for a high mile AT?

I’ve been scouring around trying to find a case of AAMCO Semi Synthetic ATF for my 88, that’s what I put in it over 5 years ago when I did a full flush and thought I’d just keep the same stuff going.. No luck.. I also noticed that there are a few new types out there like dex-merc etc. I know mine calls for Dexron II but I can’t find it either! Autozone recommended Dex II/ Merc or Dex IV, then one Dex Merc, and one type F. I walked out till I get a better idea, I had used the high mileage fluid once before and it wouldn’t shift back into 1st! I’m about at 200,000 miles on the stock transmission. Any suggestions on off the shelf ATF? I swear by RedLine products in manual transmissions and rear ends but for my AT Im not sure what to feed it.

The following chart represents the improvements of Dexron VI vs Dexron III.

Extended Fill Range = 100,000 miles Normal Use.
Change Interval = 50,000 miles Severe Use.
Clutch Friction Stability = Improved 100%
Clutch Durability = Improved 120%
Oil Film = Increased 20%
Fluid Oxidation = Improved 100%
Shear Stability = Improved 200%
Foam / Aeration= Improved 150%

III is being phased out, good luck finding II anywhere. Go with VI, never look back.

I've heard rave reviews about Amsoil's ATF. If I owned an auto that is what I would "feed" it.

Also, Schaeffer's Oil apparently also makes an excellent synthetic ATF. Some stores have that on the shelf.

I use Mobil 1. I can find it at Auto Zone. I recently replaced semi-synthetic with full synthetic with no issues.
