i found a crane cam (272) mid range performance camshaft for a 22re on craigslist, for $40. anybody think this is a good deal? ive never heard of a crane cam, so i was wondering if its some kind of pos knockoff.

anyway, if you guys were me, would you say deal, or no deal?

make sure it works with stock valve springs and you might not like the way it idles.

Valve Springs Required Yes Yes that tell me your gonna need special valve spring to run that cam.

no you need valve springs, yes it will idle funny (lope). Technically with the need for different valve springs it does not just bolt in.

 

ehhh...alright then, not interested...

truck runs fine the way it is, -$40+loping idle=no deal.

It's not gonna have a lopey idle like a 350 with a cam in it..
It's going to idle like a rough-running 4 cylinder, that isnt running rough.

haha yeah I don't like the sound of a high duration cam on a 22r either. Not to mention it kills your low end power.

 

WOW..that sounds like...an 8N Ford tractor,or me after eatin a big bowl of chile.I wouldn't do a cam with that much duration in a (probably) stock comp. 22RE. It may sound/run o.k. with >10.5:1 comp., not a stocker otherwise..I say leave the cam alone (stock).Sleepr71.

 

You never said was this a new or used cam??

Even with a new Cam I would make sure you have an iron clad money back return policy

Being able to measure the cam also helps

 

its a new cam, i wouldnt waste my time with a used one...

im kinda stuck on the fence now....

it's just like the 270 cam from EB just a lil more duration..

will open up your top end a little bit...would be best paired with a free flowing exhaust.

it all depend on the duration and lift of your cam some lose low end some gain more low end it all depends waht youdo with your truck there are almost as many cams for a 22r as there is for a sbc just do a little googling
