ever heard of a "custom cab" 87 pickup?

I was just checking out Craigslist for some deals I couldn't resist and I found this thing. Do these "custom cabs" get gas mileage close to the regular cabs? (EPA says 18/22 for same truck with standard cab)

This looks like a SWEET truck! Its a 5 speed, A/C, ps, 10000 miles on rebuilt engine and new transmission.

there are many threads on the "custom" cab truck. Google search and you'll see bro. It wasn't a dealer deal. But rather the dealer sent the truck out to various shops that would extend the frame as well as add the fiberglass ext. cab.

X2, for vital22re. I have seen a couple of those trucks. It was a dealer option but covered under original warrenty from what I have seen. The wheel base seems extremly long. Definetly different from the norm. They are few and far between.

'ADD' has three of them.
When I bought my '86 4runner (New) I test drove a custom cab, kind of like turning a Suburban, lots of backing up.

I think they are disgustingly ugly and oddly intriguing, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

i know a guy who buys up and parts out toyotas regularly; he has one of these. it's an 87 and a turbo to boot. it has a full bench seat back there.

your mileage should be similar to a well loaded longbed.

IMHO the variation in mileage among our trucks, at this age, is more dependent on its mechanical condition than body style variation. vac leaks, changes to timing, tire pressure, etc.

this guy may be smoking the industrial strength crack.

notice the $1200 VHS player? he better get Doc Brown to convert that thing into a time machine, and go back to the 90s if he wants to recoup that $$.

what a great description. sound sensitive neon lights? in H.S. i had a car with sound sensitive headlights. they'd dim with the bass.

i wonder if these come with a complimentary Hypercolor t-shirt. remember those?

This is what he calls the suspension lift? Gross

And is that a roll bar in the back of the cab? Thats pretty neat. Guess you would need it with the fiberglass ex cab.

I'm not even sure that 89 one is a 'custom cab' like the other one. To me it looks like the extra cab wheelbase with the doors stretched into the extra cab part.

Hi there,

I know this reply is from a very old post but I'm getting ready to sell my 86 Toyota pickup with the especially long fiberglass cab. I'd love to find the right place to ask yotatechies what they think I should ask for it. More info if you're still out there.

Thanks
