When I lock in the hubs put 4wd the dash light comes on but no power from front axle. I jacked up the truck and turned the wheels by hand seems fine.
Took it to a local shop they said around $1500. To replace everything except front diff. So I went an got 2nd price they said around $700. It was the axle clips because the pass. side axle was showing a little from the front diff.

What I would like to know is does that sound reasonable axle clips? or The total rebuild? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

It should not be to hard to figure this out.

I would think you have a hub not engaging with the hubs engaged and it on the ground see if the front drive shaft will spin(by hand) if it does look to see what side is spinning .

That will be where the problem is If the axle has come out of the splines Because of a snap ring breaking on the right side that will spin with the vehicle on the ground If that is the problem it is not to bad to pull the cover and replace the snap ring but if it went through the ring and pinon it might need some work to get rid of the burrs

Not much can go wrong Blown CV joints are easy to see If the front differential went kaboom it won`t turn at all or makes so much noise!!


Had you been using the 4wd for a while and this just happened or you went to use and it wouldn`t work??

 

No I was in deep snow making a turn And a girl lost control and was in my lane. I went to shoulder to keep from getting hit and got stuck got out locked hubs ,got back inside put it in 4wd and nothing was there. Luckily a man came along with a 4x4 truck and pulled me out. Got home and looked it over.
