Well, this morning i went to the store and my engine started making this horrible noise...it sounds like someone put marles inside the engine or tranny....so when i got home, i got under my 4runner and check everything to make sure nothing was loose. The noise comes and goes, it goes from nothing to very loud....and when i touch the oil pan, i fell a lot of vidration like if something inside is hitting it...any ideas on what should I start looking at?...ps, my 4runner is a 95 3vze 5 spd with 206k miles...and like 6 months ago, i change the clutch and forgot to change the pilot bearing. Thank you everyone.

 

Drain your oil through a screen. You might have left something loose in your clutch instal ( maybe pressure plate bolt). Same with your trans oil.

Could be the pilot bearing, hard to say.

 

thats what I am thinking but the noise it goes away and it comes back...low and it get loud.

 

Well when does the noise go away and come back? Is it just random or RPM related? Cold or hot engine? Clutch in or out? Could be something as simple as an exhaust rattle, try hitting the exhaust and see if it makes the noise, pay attention to the cat as well as they can rattle if the cat is coming apart.

 

I check all that and nothing, however. when I touch the oil pan I can fell vibration on it.

That does not sound good at all. It does seem to change a bit with RPMs?

Oil level and quality looks good?
Other fluids?
Spark plugs are all in one piece? None loose?
No overheating prior to the sound appearing?

You might try pinpointing the general area of the noise with a mechanics stethoscope. Given the potential for continued mechanical damage, I sure would not run the RPMs up and would also try running it for a minimum amount of time during the diagnosis process.

 

oil level good, color a little dark, all other fluids are good, spark plugs are tide. never overheated....you can heard the noise more strong from the bottom....as you can heard in the video, the noise changes rapirly and thats why I cant tell.

 

Whatever you do stop running it untill you find out whats wrong.

you sure it's not just cuz the motor is running? lol

sounds like Pilot bearing...or it COULD possibly be something in the oil pan getting sloshed around?

 

It fell like something inside is hitting the oil pan but the noise is making me worry....i hope is the pilot bearing too.....any more suggestion?

 

Does your pil pressure gauge work?? It looks very low in your video and if your engine has poor oil pressure things can not be getting proper lubrication and wreak havic...

 

yep seems to me that the oil pressure gauge is not moving at all,mine at 3k rpms pass
1/2 gauge,and its obvious that engine is not getting oiled.
who knows ,rod bearings,camsahft bearings,main bearings,broken piston rings but did that guy ever check the oil pump??????

 

hello everyone, I just found the problem. It was a rod bearing....I took the engine yesterday and today I just took the oil pan and look what I found.....

I was thinking of just replacing the bearing but i dont think it is a good idea after looking at the crackshaft....what do you guy think?

 

I have one of those in my truck right now...
Toyota makes at least three "standard" bearings, so it is going to be hard to get the right one even if that is still possible.
Mine is so bad that even after putting in a new bearing and checking the clearance, it was still outside the factory recommended max clearance...

Just have the engine rebuilt or buy a new/reman shortblock...
