22RE swap to 22rte w/CT-26

So I bought a 22rte motor w/ct-26 turbo and ecu for $300. I plan on rebuilding the motor using engnbldr master rebuild kit, ARPs, and 268c cam. I am trying to take one step at a time, I know I am going to run into issues and that is why I am starting this thread. I am definitely going to need input from people on this forum.

When I bought the motor the CT-26 conversion hadn't been complete. I believe I have most of the parts to complete the conversion once the motor has been rebuilt. I will dive into this later in the thread, but for now its disassembly and then rebuild.

Here are some pics:

Got her strapped up in the back of the truck.

Didn't have much time to work on it, but got half of the intake manifold off. Baby steps.

Took the head off today. Not really sure what I am looking for, but I don't see any scoring of the cylinder walls. I can still see the abrasions from the honing job that supposedly took place 20k ago.. The piston tops have a bunch of sludge on them and same with the bottom of the valves.

Here are some shots of the cylinder walls

Here is a pick of the CT-26. It needs a new compressor wheel. Minimal shaft play, but thinking about buying a rebuild kit just to be safe..

Pulled the pan, found pieces of plastic from the timing chain guide. Going to pull the caps and inspect the bearings. If everything is within spec i'll clean it up and throw it all back together.

I took one of the rod caps off to check for scoring. Its not scored. The clearances seem to all be within spec..

Should I pull out the pistons and clean everything up? Or should I clean as best I can with brake cleaner?? I've been trying to remove the gasket sealant the PO used on the headgasket!! I am no expert, but I am sure you don't use gasket sealant on the headgasket.. I need to start ordering parts to put this baby back together. I am also thinking about running the 22re head instead of the 22rte head.. Any thoughts?

Just pulled the crankshaft out and now the cleaning process begins. Does anyone have any recommendations on cleaning a very dirty engine. I have heard of using diesel fuel. Rotary tool with a polishing type of disk. Let me hear it. I have my work cut out for me and would appreciate any recommendations..

Removed all of the HG material, degreased the block and painted it black today. Cleaned up a bunch of parts. Ordered full gasket kit, timing chain set with steel guide and 270 cam. Still got to order the ARP studs... Hopefully I'll start putting her back together next week

the turbo head has cut outs to lower compression sense the turbo is forced induction, running the 22re head will increase compression. Im building a 22ret truck right now just got a brand new head for 450$, the rebuild price was 325$ but my head clearance was gone and the valves would have tapped because the head was rebuilt so many times. I would say have your 22ret head looked at if its bad get it rebuild or LCE will take your 22re head and machine it into a 22ret head. Your lucky you got the ct-26, way better then the ct-20. I got the ct-20, i got the rebuild estimated at 350-450 without a cracked case, my turbine shaft had play in it. It ened up costing 850 tho my housing was cracked , thought about replace it for the ct-26 or t3t4 but wanted to keep it all orignal. over all these motor are legit dude, It will be a head turning for sure and their rare!!. get a loud BOV and then everyone one will be drowling ha good luck man

I actually haven't got to the wiring part yet. I was wondering if it would be easier to use the 22re harness and run the few additional wires needed or just buy a 22rte harness. I will be using the megasquirt so I don't know what the effects will be if I use the 22re harness. Can anyone help out with this question?

I am thinking about scraping the whole project and going with a full rebuild of my current 22re. Time and cost are what brought me to this decision. I think in the long run this is a good idea. I just don't think the truck will be as reliable as a 22re motor and I don't want to be towed out of the woods.
