Trouble with 87 Toyota

Hey guys hello I am new here, long time Toyota guy any ways got a real head scratcher. I have an 87 Yota truck with a auto tranny 340. I recently had it rebuilt as I was having a problem that they told me would go away after rebuild. I push in on accelerator in drive and the engine will rev not high just constant, acts like it is stuck in second, I will drop gears and it stays the same. The transmission shop says its the ecu but I have swapped ecus and it does the same thing, I find it hard to beleive that 2 different ecus would have the same problem. I have done the obviouse fuel filter o2 sensor etc. etc. even went to the extreme of replacing the AFM but no change. The tranny shop says they will pull it and check it again but this is getting ridiculouse just want it to work right. I do not want to take it to Toyota and pay a gazillion dollars for them to diagnose so hoping someone out there has had similar problems. Thanks in Advance and look forward to talking to you all.

Has the tps been touched?

I believe if the tps isn't adjusted properly It can cause issues with the auto tranny's.

A bad temp sensor on the motor can cause it not to shift into over drive ,but it would not affect 2nd to 3rd shifting. If I remember right there are separate sensor for the gauge, ecu and the trans all grouped together close to the thermostat housing on the 22re.

I have a 86 runner, i had a simialr problem. One of the shifting celenoids in the tranny was bad. May want to go that route. Had the tranny shop replace it and has been good ever since.

Thanks for info, I have had the tps replaced and adjusted and the tranny shop has tested the solenoids and they are all working properly however I am interested in the sensors mentioned by the thermostat housing I have not tested or replaced those could this be my problem and how do I test them to see if they are functioning properly.

dreadlockm3, it seems i might be having the same problem, seems stuck in 2nd gear, won't downshift into passing gear? Can you list more of your symptoms please?
I replaced my egr valve yesterday and it seems a lil better but not cured, I have a hunch it could be O2 sensor but it just seems to much of a problem for that to be the answer.
Any help is appreciated.

I will know more after this weekend when I change it out but ya thats what it feels like. It feels like it is stuck in second however rpms do not go up stays at a constant no matter how much gas u give it. If you put it in first it is not actually first as I can get up to 30 mph and rpms do not change then all of a sudden it will shift and rpms shoot up. This is the reason I believe the mechanic is right as all the gas is trapped cause the egr is not opening up that would cause major power loss. I will let you know what the outcome with mine is after I get a chance to change it. If you have replaced your egr already try replacing the thing, can't think of the name right now, that looks like your egr that sits above your egr.
