22r idles but dies when i give it gas

86 22r automatic had been sitting for a couple years. Got it running but it ran like crap. rebuilt carb, new fuel filter, timing chain guides, checked cam chain timing- still ran poorly.
Took a carb off of a perfect running 22r 5 speed- still runs like crap
good compression, no smoke
good plugs, wires, cap, rotor and gas
WIERD- it dies when i spray starting fluid in the carb while it is idling?

I can see fuel in the window but it seems low. Where should the level be at? Can i pull the line between the fuel pump and the carb and get a good idea if it is pumping?

Also, initial startup requires starting fluid, but after that it starts super easy, idles smooth, and will pull itself around at idle, but as soon as i touch the gas pedal it dies.

if it sat for years, maybe something built a nest in the exhaust system or it's simply just plugged up?

ok it is definitely not filling up the float bowl. I pulled the fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb and it is pumping fuel. then i pulled the top of the carb checked the float and it is moving smoothly. Sprayed carb cleaner in to the fuel inlet and it was coming out at the needle.
What am I missing?
