Ugh heater core pipe help a NEWB out

Well first thing is first let me introduce myself....
My name is Ben... from ct and i just got a 93 pickup for 600$, i figured it was a steal until the head gasket blew two days later

So instead of just replacing the head gasket i decided it would be a better idea just to throw in a re-manufactured motor, i mean heck its only 800$

So fast forward two weekends..... I have the motor ready to crank over when i find this pesky little leak on my heater core pipe, this is the ONLY thing holding me back from starting my truck and having a vehicle again

Just wondering what the best way to get to this pipe is/ the best way to seal it up. it looks like the gasket got scrunched up behind it

ANY help would be VERY appreciated i neeeeed to know if there is an easy way to take this sucker off

It is the pipe that runs under the exhaust manifold

Thanks,
Ben Tuthill

you are talking about where it seals at the back of the timing cover on the driver's side.....right?

can probably seal that up with black RTV.....just getting it to that point is gonna be a PITA.

to post pics , copy the IMG code and paste it in the gray text area.

welcome to YOTATECH.

i can't really remember.......really i just wanted to fix your pic so everyone knows what you are talking about.

i do know that on the rear-side of that pipe there was a metallic gasket....thicker than the paper ones

My gasket on my Tchain cover got torn and leaked like a sieve right there.
And then i stripped the bolt on the other side..
I loaded it up with RTV and it sealed right on up.

ideally, there's a paper gasket there... you can actually see it sticking out on the edges in that pic

personally, I wouldn't trust just RTV to hold, but that's just me

you could unbolt that pipe and remove it completely, and trace out your own gasket on some gasket material (can be picked up at pretty much any auto parts store) and make your own if you can't find one that willll fit directly

welcome to the forum, Ben

I think I did e with blue RTV and it seems to work just fine.
