Free from Toyota Stealer ??!!!

Our local Toy stealer kinda owes us because of a serious gaff of their service department.

What would you ask for from them as compensation??

I'm thinking front end mask and tube steps.

keeping in mind that our Runner is 2wd and mostly driven by my wife.

It has to do with the service people keeping our Runner for 6 hours on Friday after we took the day off for the work and doing nothing to it. THEN, they told us the parts didn't come in yet.

"Wait a minute.....the appointment was made on Tuesday, and you have no parts on Friday, and then wait 6 hours to tell me this??" I yelled !!!

The service manager said, "So I lied to you. What are you gonna do? Shoot me? "

All this info was relayed to the customer service manager, and she had a fit about it too. Told us that she would be sure to pass it along to the owner, and then told us to be sure to come in and see her personnally. That she would handle the compensation.

you know that might not work...i think the supercharger is too expensive...i think i'd ask for a hoodscoop...since I don't have one and i really really want one! How much does a hoodscopp cost anyway? 500...?

Probably a lot more than that. I think you would need a whole new hood. Along with that comes painting that new hood too.

Probably. But I seriously doubt they are going to comp you with something like that. I would guess that a dealership would have to REALLY mess something up to give you a supercharger, or a new (painted) hood with a scoop in it.

I am sure they are going to give you like a free oil change or something. Read the fine print somewhere ...

I haven't priced anything yet, but I damn sure will ask for WAY more than I really want. If they cut it in half, OK.

But they might not offer anything. Then I'll remind them that I work for Uncle Sam, and there are about 15,000 people on the military base I can get communication to about the dealership.

The parts for the new hood would be just under $500.00 but getting it painted to match your rig will be anoth $500.00 (I know, I want one too!) Heh-heh.

Wood dash, syn fluid change (diff, tranny, etc), cat-back, stereo upgrade, security system, oral sex...

Jeff > Take the High Road. Don't try extortion types of things, don't ask for free items simply because there was an ass working for them. Don't expect freebies. Simply write a letter to Toyota of America, and let them know what kind of treatment you received from this particular dealership's service department. ( and be totally honest). Tell them exactly what happened and what was said. I'm sure they will make it up to you in more ways than the dealer will. Plus, the owner of the dealership will definitely hear from corporate. Good luck.

dealers hate the word "corporate". last time i was at the dealer, they were telling me that becuase i wasnt under warranty, they wouldnt do a TSB for me. well i asked them for the number for Toy Corp's Customer Service. his eyes lit up, tried to tell me he didnt have the number and told me to look in my manual for the number  ! then, he finally gives me a business card with the number on it thats sitting right on his desk in front of me!!! so while im on the phone with corporate, before i even get to talk to a rep and tell them whats goin on, he interupts to say that they would be happy to do the TSB for me. its so pathetic how Toy dealers do business, pathetic.

hood scoop

I put a hood scoop on my 98.....cost about 400 for the hood, with the hood scoop inset (two different pieces, the inset costing over 100 Bones!!) so 400 total. then painting cost me exactly 300 dollars....the match was perfect. So the total conversion cost just about 700 dollars, well worth it...I will be posting pics soon!!!

To all:

As a former "corporate" employee, I'll give you a little insight into why this can be effective. First, every Toyota dealer is rated on several factors, including customer service. It is aggregated into a score (or several, depending on which area). Thus, the higher the score, the better corporate treats that dealer. Most notably, the better the score, the better the vehicles they will get to sell---a big, juicy, dangly incentive b/c no one wants to sell a fleet of lavender Echos!

You know those after-service customer scorecards you get in the mail or most often, in person? At least at my dealership, some of the newbie CSRs try to get you to fill it out right in front of them. They'll say something like "Did you receive good service from me? If so, I'd really appreciate it if you could fill out this card right now...blah, blah, blah."

This is the approach I take: if i don't get good service from the get go and feel like I'm gonna get ganked, I'll say something like: "Sir, may I get your name? Can you spell that for me? Oh why? Well, I just wanted to make sure I spell your name correctly when I fill out the after-service comment card." The two times I did it, they really changed their attitude.

Bob

Maybe you should ask for the service managers head on a spike!

Toyota builds a great product but from what I have seen in person most dealers after sales service
