So i want to put a sub in my 89 standard cab i just bought, and have a alpine type E 12" sub, but cant really find a way to mount it due to its size and i would rather not go buy a shallow sub for behind the seat if i dont have to so...if anyone has found a way to mount a fullsize sub and has pictures that would be awesome if you could post them.
And i have bucket seats in it with no center console already.

 

I've got 2 12" old school sub boxes behind my seats in my 87

 

i was thinkin about that. but that sub has lika an eight inch or more mounting depth, and since im about 6 foot i need all the leg room i can get. haha

 

since you don't have a center console already you could build one out of MDF and face the sub backwards towards the rear, but honestly unless someone has that exact sub none of really know how big that really is and how much room you really have to work with.

 

ya i was actually thinking about doing something like that. the thing is pretty massive for a 12. haha but i think if i did like your saying and made the box kinda like a center console and face the sub into the back of the cab that would be my best bet...ive built boxes with MDF before just never had such a small space to work with. but i think ill see what i can do with your idea. if all goes as planned i should have it done next weekend. (college=no time to work on truck) ill post some pics of the final results

Just a piece of advise which i am sure you know already, find the specs on that sub and how much space (cu ft) that it requires and whether or not it does better in a ported or sealed box, so you know how big to make the sub chamber in it. This is where geometry in highschool pays off.

 

I put some Acura Integra bucket seats in my 89 standard cab, built the box to use the space behind both seats (when all the way back) and added an extra .20 arispace by extending the enclosure between the seats so the sub sits between passenger and driver.. the box was about 1.20 cubic feet of airspace total (sealed) and I put a JL 10w6V2 in it and the thing sounds ridiculous, alot louder than most 12" subs with inadequate enclosure volume...I'll take some pics and post them later today..

 

haha ya i knew that. and every once in a while it pays off in the real world i guess.

i might try to do something like that...does it seem like it would get hit easily with an elbow or something though and poke a hole in the cone? or is it fairly out of the way when your sittin in the truck? its hard to tell from a picture with stuff like that.

 

I haven't had any probelms hitting the sub, I had a Fosgate sub with a grill over it before but the excursion of the JL is out of control so I decided against the grill this time.. A buddy of mine has 2 8" subs downfiring and his system sounds really good...next time i see him i'll snap some pictures of his box design if you haven't figured anything out yet...The box is similar to mine but his amp is mounted where my sub is, just a few inches more recessed. It's a really clean setup

 

thats what i did in mine i have an 8w7 in a ported box and it fits between my seats and sounds amazing for an 8" sub its actualy unbelievable and i have plenty of room behind my seats i just stood the box on end
