Engine vs. Transmission - which lasts longer?

hello all. I have a 96 3.4 4runner with about 240k on it. It runs good, but I was thinking to myself and want some opinions. What usually lasts longer, the engine or automatic trans if both are taken care of? thanks.

engine has seals and gaskets to worry about

tranny has clutch plates

both should last forever, but everything depends on driving history

tranny usually slips before engine trouble, but everyone has a different
experience

did it sit around ? (both good and bad)
long trips or short trips ?
beat on or cared for ?
ever been overheated ?

there is no good way to tell. you should get engine oil and tranny oil
analysis if you want more specific answers
