89 4x4 wont go pass 67 mph on highways

Hi,
New here... I just bought this truck last week it seems to be fine but after when I bought and drives it home. When I got on the highway it wont go more than 67 mph. Any help would be great thanks.
It's a 22re, 5spd, new plugs and wires, at about 116k miles.

hmmm with that size tire you should be flying something is holding you back a lot. could be the cat if it seems to run well but doesn't like high speed could be timing also but id say those are the most likely culprits if all appears well at idle and such what does it feel like in the first couple gears?

old stale gas in tank has varnished the fuel pump sock.
Time to change the fuel filter???
Your speedo is just messed up
That could make some difference.
Heck with mine I was happy to be able to do 55mph.

Mine does 90, no problem....... 31's, stock gears and 261 CAM, Header, Cold air, ..that's about it. No LCE Street illegal motor or anything. If you have those tires, it should do at least 75 unless it's tired or clogged cat or something EFI related. I had a really bad PCV that caused me some top speed issues, too. Was smokin and everything, lol.
Far as checking codes, open the diagnostic port behind the fusible link box(just behind battery).... open that lil sucker and plug a paper clip into both the T and E1, or TE1 and E1(87 and after, it's one or the other) terminals(there's a lil diagram inside the lid of that lil port...should be). Turn the key to on position, not starting it, and watch the Check engine light for flashes.

Stock with 235's mine will 75-80 I've never pushed it harder than that. Maybe your valves could use an adjustment. I had an old 87 with 31 inch mud tires and a tired motor and it wouldn't go past 70 ever.

I have an 85 with 106k on the odo and when I got it a year ago it did the same thing and also it would not kick down around town to pass (auto). I recomend replacing your vaccum lines and the bascis fuel pump filter, plugs wires, rotor ect, ect. But if I did only one thing it would be vaccum lines and checking for vaccum leaks in your intake (all the way to the block). That is what cured mine. Everything else I did for piece of mind.
Also check your EGR valve even though you have low millage that joker could be clogged up and sticking open, killing your performance.

I had a 91 22re 5 speed. didnt go over 65, i had 31 and 32 inch tires, neither were any faster. But nothing was wrong that i could find...good plugs good valves. Maybe sometimes for some reason some just dont have as much power as others.
Because my 22re automatic 4runner does 80....

I haven't experienced the filter thing yet. There's a lot of ethanol here maybe that keeps things cleaner.
The hardest thing I learned about the 22re is that the TPS has to be set or you can't set the timing and it will not run right. And the power wires from the battery are junk. Both things very cheap and can make the truck run very bad.
My 90 PU can cruise at 70 and it's a little doggy in the low 60's like it's just hitting the power band at 65. It can do 65 with a 16' aluminum boat on the flat.

Thanks yall.... I end up changing my oil, spark plug wires, spark plugs, and fuel filter. Now it runs great. I took it to the highway and hit 75 mph. I probably would of hit 80 if I really wanted to but at 75 mph it was good. Thanks again.
Now I gotta get a blower resistor cause my heat is not working....
