how many qts/gal to spray?

My roll on job w/ flat black rustolem came nowhere near the roll on paint jobs pictured on this site that 'fired me up' to give it a go. Yesterday I wet sanded the 2nd coat (roll on) in preparation to spray w/ an inexpenive gun picked up at H Freight that wouldn't tax my small 5 hp/20 gal compressor. I used almost a quart of the rustole using the roller. How much should I expect to use spraying the flat black? I've only had experience w/ cans so I plan on shooting the old door and fenders that I replaced to get a little practice in w/ the gun. The vehicle is an '89 ext cab pickup 4x4. Any insight /suggestions are appreciated (I did use 'search') Thanks~art

ok so corection on that if you want a profesional look get 1 gallon and expect to use 3 quarts get the right thinner for the paint you are using and also some hardener mix to a ratio of 8:4:1 8-parts paint 4:parts thinner and 1:part hardener it should turn out just fine and do a few coats and lay it on thin to avoid runs I hope this helps

I used the harbor freight gun with good results. Turn the silver nob at the bottom of the gun (not the one of the regulator) all the way out. Turn the brass nob on the back of the gun 4 turns out. Set the psi on the regulator to 35-40 psi. and play with it. I sprayed two coats of Parker Coatings flat duck boat paint on my 4runner and it came out great. Make sure you clean the gun out before you spray the paint, the guns come heavily oiled. You can see the truck in my build thread. Forgot to mention I used 1 gallon. The HF gun uses a lot of paint due to over spray.
