Loud rattle when I push the clutch (22RE)

I have a loud rattle that happens when I am switching gears while driving. It almost sound like the engine, but it only happens when i push the clutch to switch gears. It only last for a second, if i keep the clutch pushed in it it wont do it. Any ideas?

That sounds a lot like my muffler. It is rusty and rattles a lot when shifting gears. It is not too noticable under normal driving or revving.

Not sure, I will have to check and see. It sounds like the same sound that my engine makes when I start my truck for the first time in the morning. It has a loud rattle for a few seconds, but once the oil gets to flowing it stops. There is a certian RPM where my engine will make a rattle but only for a few seconds. It does it on the while reving up and stops once I get past that certian rpm and does it again on the way back down.

That is your timing chain that is rattleing on sttart up. It also sounds like your throwout bearing is going out. I think you have a few issues going on here. Time to break out your

Timing chain and guides were replaced about 3 years ago with a kit from here: http://www.engnbldr.com/toyota_performance.htm

Timing chain rattling would come from the front of the engine. The driver's side guide is the one that breaks, this means that the sound can sometimes appear to be coming from the alternator. Another sign is that it can sometimes sound like a diesel when you first start it for a few seconds.

Check all of the heat shields on the exhaust. If any of them have broken bolts or if they are loose then tighten them up and see if the noise stops. My muffler rattles when I shift gears. It kind of sounds like a bike chain in a coffee can if that makes sense.
