22rte rebuild with 3 link suspension conversion

I have an 86 turbo 4x4 5spd pickup. I am rebuilding the motor with parts from engnbldr and swaping the suspension to a 3link from trail gear front and rear. These are the first pictures I have from the rebuild. So far I have the motor out and ready to be worked on. I will get pics up later of the motor to show how bad it is.

There is a hole in the timing cover from timing chain slap and a mild knock from the motor probably from running coolant for who knows how long. It wasn't taken care of at all by the previous owner. The rear main seal is bad and probably the head gasket as well. It leaks oil like crazy and i'm not sure about the turbo. There is alot of oil in the intake from it so its probably coming out for a ct26 or something. Who knows yet?

UPDATE 12/8/10 I know what turbo it is! Its at the end of the page!!!!!

So i've put in alot of work and haven't posted pics because I lost the camera that had everything on it so all I have is whats here. As I stand, I have the motor completely apart except for the crankshaft. I can't figure out how to get this last pulley off. Look...
Any ideas how? And is it right or lefthand thread?

And no Josh I didn't wake up and decide I wanted a turbo. I woke up and decided to rebuild my already turbo truck.

heat it with a little bottle torch then hit it with an air impact. someone might of had the bright idea to red lock tight it.

i kid you not the last time i had a crank bolt that i couldn't get off of the motor and it was on a stand it took forever. I tried breaker bars. i tried impact guns. i tried cussing. i tried spitting. I talked dirty to it. Shoot i even sweet talked it a little. Nothing was working. Well i had borrowed a friend of mine's 3 foot breaker bar and wailed on it with all i had and still nothing. After feeling defeated i leaned over and sat directly on the breaker bar and presto it popped off just like that. I'm not saying that's going to work for you or any thing but figured i'd share for laughs and who knows it just might work. By the way i weigh in at 160 pounds soaking wet so no fat jokes here kids.

Did you get the crank bolt loose? That is NOT an enviable position to be in, with the thing apart and on an engine stand.....

I had to put a 4 foot breaker bar on mine and have it wedged onto the ground.. I had to bump the starter a few times to do it.

SOrry I havent updated in a while. I've been real busy with work and school and all. Anyway, thanks to the bottle torch advice I have my motor completely disassembled and ready to be rebuilt. Before I start that though, i'm going to finish demo work on the truck. I have almost everything outta the engine bay as you can see in the first few pics. Today, I removed everything from the interior. I will be removing the IFS in the very near future. Work has been moving slower than I prefer so I hope that things will get rolling from here. Here are some pics from today. Sorry I for got to take some of the motor so I'll have to get those up later.

So Im starting to get parts in and I figured i'd get some fun photos up. I'm using mostly trail gear parts for my suspension and all engnbldr parts for my motor because thats what I prefer.
Now first and foremost, i'm factory turbo'd and this truck is being stripped down to frame and shell and fully rebuilt with brand new parts only. That being said, I will start with the turbo.

I received this Garrett t-25 / t-28 hybrid from a friend of mine at work who thought it might match up when he saw my old factory turbo sitting around my shop. The factory tubro is rated at 6psi however, Tod at engndldr told me that he has never tested one in all the years that produced more than 5psi. The ct-20 turbo from toyota is water cooled and has an internal wastegate. (no BOV) The Garrett that I received has all the same setup but puts out 9psi. Just enough to run efficiently and get that last bit of power out of my brand new motor. It will sit up top of a steedspeed manifold and nothing else. Thanks TK for this awesome setup!

Next up are the birfiled dirty 30's. I got these to go in the rock assult front axle housing. Those will connect with the six shooter knuckles from TG using their knuckle service kit and wheel bearings shown below. And at the end, TG bomb proof tcase mount.

Today I removed the heater core and blower system as I wont be running a heater or an a/c. I cleaned up the rest of the cab and removed everything else underneath the hood. She's just about bare bones now. I need to get a plasma cutter over here i hope on sunday and cut off the ifs. I want to get the rear axle and the rest of the drive train off as well as the rear suspension so i can get ready for the conversion. i'm thinking about taking the body off and getting the frame powder coated while i'm at it. might as well with everything apart like this. I just can't see spending this much and getting this deep and then leave something out. We'll see what happens. For now here are some pics from tonight.

That's kinda how I felt when I saw the factory turbo setup for sale. This truck was treated like garbage for a long time so I decided to buy it and turn it into something worthy. I should be getting the rock assult axle housings pretty soon. Then I can get my axles all put together and ready to install.
