Westin Safari Bar For 98 Tacoma but not 96?

I am interested in purchasing a Westin Safari Bar for my 96 Tacoma

xtracab 4x4. Westin only advertises them for 1998 to 2000, excluding 96/97. I am wondering why?! I phoned Westin directly and they could not give me a specific reason, they only said it was because "the frames are different". Well, please correct me if I'm wrong but, aren't the frames identical? Can anybody give me a specific reason it won't fit a 96, and what, if any, modification may have to be made to fit this bar to my 96?

I don't know about frame changes but I imagine the redesign of the front-end would impact the mounting configuration.

Some basic modification (brackets) will allow it to fit.
