electric fan swap 89'4runner

electric fan swap 89'4runner
I need some info for swapping in an electric fan in place of the mechanical fan. The fan has kinda already been swapped, trouble is, the fan is controlled by the driver (me), by a SWITCH under the dash.
Trouble with this method is, I stop and let the truck idle or drive under 30mph for long, and soon the radiator will boil over, maybe even pop goes a head gasket.
I need a better way to switch the fan on.
Somebody out there has got to make a controller and thermostat if toyota didnt already make one that'll work.
All i need is a controller, i cant afford or see any need in buying a complete kit, fan, wires, controller, etc. I just want to get rid of the switch under the dashboard.
This mod was out of necessity, a new fan + clutch is over $80 here, the fan I run now, was free, out of junk minivan. If it going to cost much more than $80 i might as well go back to stock.

Yea if you can find an unused (plugged) hole on the stat housing or something to put a sensor into that will work. Otherwise put it in the top of the radiator, ive seen that done as well.
The one malteserunner is talking about is handy. Its just a thermo-switch you can adjust it to power the fan at whatever temp you want. Then route two wires and you're set.

i just got done fixing the electric fan the last owner butcher'd in to my "new' truck. it was an aftermarket fan but an electric one none the less. all you need is a relay, a roll of electrical tape, some connectors and a crimper, a voltmeter, and some 12 or 14 gauge wire.
you basically use a switched 12v source from the fuse block in the engine bay to act as a switch for the relay. the relay then sends power to the fan. i set mine up using a switched 12v that becomes active with ignition, my fan runs as long as the truck is on. there are lots of places to tag into the switched 12v source in that fuse block, just check with an voltmeter. basic relay set up and your good to go man.
