Shifter question for AOD swappers: Pics?

Hey, all.
I've done quite a bit of searching among the pages of this forum, and haven't found much input on what people are using for shifters on their AOD swaps.

I have a '91 4R with a 5.0/AOD/TransAdapt to Toyota TC swap. The truck was originally a 3.0 with the auto trans. I installed a Hurst V-Matic shifter which I'm really not all that thrilled with. The original will obviously not work with my current setup. What are you guys using for shifters? Pics, anyone?

Thanks!
Russell

ford or chevy 5.0? The shifter is a 3 speed shifter? You can run it with a od tranny like the 700-r4. You just wont be able to manually shift through all the gears.... They will just be one off.

I have a Ford 5.0 with the AOD 3-speed and manual Toyota transfer case currently installed in my '91 4Runner. (Does anyone really refer to the Chevy 305 as a 5.0? Genuinely curious, here, not being a smart@$$.)

With this setup, there's no way to use the factory shifter. I'm not looking for a new tranny, but I'm curious what shifters similar swappers are using. I really don't like the Hurst V-Matic very much.

What are people using with this setup? I know it's been done my more than a few guys around here. Any input's welcomed!

Yeah, one of my Jeeps has a 5.0 TBI. Just look on the hurst website and find the one you like. I have a slap-shift one in my Jeep and a "tip-tonic" one in my ext.cab. ie: when in race mode you push it forward and it goes right back to the same place. repeat for third.

old thread but here goes, since your 4runner has 3 selectable gears like my '95,and a separate button to selet or not select od, you can use the original shifter as i did on mine,as the (early at least)aods only have 1,d,od that is selectable,a 3 speed shifter. the aftermarket shifters i have used are a pain in the butt.to hotrod them,(mine is a 2 wheel),since there is not a selectable 2nd gear, take off in d,when it shifts to 2nd as you are accelerating, shift into 1st.it will stay in 2nd unless you get below a given speed(somewhere between 10 and 18 mph)when you reach your target rpm in 2nd shift to d or od,which would be 2nd or 3rd on a 3 speed shifter, remember, the cars that came with aods did not have 2nd gear displayed on the shifter....cheers,rob

oh, by the way,i did a conversion in '96 using a 255 sb and aod from a cougar to a capri rs turbo.that car used the old pinto 2.3 engine with a turbo, they didnt live long if you opened up the wastegate all the way.even though the 255 was a smogger,it still kicked the crap out of the same model with a 2.3 turbo.as the previous owner of that car will attest!!!.rob.
