so i got my Hella 4000s today. so i go outside to put them on my bumper and they dont fit in the opening of the TJM T-15. ive seen pics of Reapur and Jackson's TJM with Hella 4000s in there, whats wrong with mine?

they fit in there sort of, but theyre at an angle.

 

why not try widening the hole with a drill?

Off topic question-did you need the body lift to clear the 285's on stock wheels?

 

The Hella 4000s are (8 3/4"W x 5" D x 9 3/16"H)

You don't have the 9 3/16" in that space???

 

There are two thumb screws on the bottom of the Hellas. Loosen these up so that the Hella can "float" about the base.

Now mount the Lights on the TJM and move the lens on that base from the bottom, so try to keep the top tip stationary and move the botom.
It'll fit perfectly with just enough room to stick a toothpick between the light and the hoop.

Damn, Ryan... that sucks. How are you trying to fit them? The entire light doesn't fit inside the hoop as they sit slightly forward on the bumper. I have mine aimed a bit high right now, and the back of the lamp is just barely not touching the hoop. Depending on how you want them aimed, they may tough. Use the adjustment screws on the bottom of the lamps to let them float in the base. Swivel them down to give you the most clearance at the hoop. Mount the lights, then aim them. They should fit. I can snap a quick photo of mine so you can see how tight the fit is if it will help.

 

Yeah - they will fit so the light pattern will be aimed correctly, but the entire lamp won't be enclosed in the bumper's front loop. Had the same situation with mine... Once ya adjust them with the screws on the bottom of the lamp, you'll be ok............

 

ok i put them on this morn, the adjusting screws was the solution. now theyre on, but its daytime so i cant really adjust the beam right now

I had to adjust my fogs in the daytime so I just pulled in a garage and shot them on the wall and lined them up with the same pattern/height of my headlights so I knew I wouldn't be blinding anyone. Find a garage and see if that helps you to line them up in the daytime.

 

Just an FYI... this isn't always a good solution. Consider this: You pull into a garage so your rig is 8-10' away from the back wall. You turn on your headlights and fog lights, aim the fog lights so they are at the same level as your headlights. If your fog lights are mounted at the same height as your headlights, you are probably ok. But if they are mounted below (as fog lights should be for best performance in bad weather), then the fogs are now aimed up. At 8-10', it may not be a problem... but what about the oncomming vehicle that's 25-50' away. Now you're blinding him.

Just make sure you check the aiming at night. Hella recommends aiming lights 20" off the ground at 25' (if memory serves).

Glad you got them to fit. What beam pattern did you go with?

 

I should have clarified further Jackson. As you can see I am bumper mounted with my fogs so they are about headlight level. I didn't bother getting any for the valence as I will get a TJM eventually and these can just hop over to the TJM with little manipulation. I chose fogs as I go to work early in the morning by a major river and it is usually quite foggy, like pea soup. I'll add some driving lights to the TJM and up top later.

I used my headlights on the wall to give me a gauge as to where to aim my fogs, which was just a bit below the headlight pattern. I tested them that night on a pitch black dark road going to my house and they were dead on where they needed to be. I generally don't burn my fogs when on a crowded road anyway and I turn them off if someone approaches on the road to my home or on the road to work just so as not to blind them unintentionally.

hehe. I didn't have any problem getting my LightForce 170's to mount in there. Even the 240's would have fit, but only because of the way the LightForce mount bracket is designed. Maybe you could fab up a steel bracket or something to shift the lights forward until they do fit.

 

Don't worry about it. I've read enough of your posts to know that you generally know what's going on. My post was mostly for other people reading who might not think it all the way through.

 

I'll be the first to admit that I've learned a great deal here about 4Runners and there is still a bunch of stuff I have no clue about, i.e. electrical stuff, SAS, other hardcore stuff.
