Looks like Hopkins does not make a plug and play adapter for this year.
There are some kits that have a "Upgraded Circuit Protected Modulite with 4 Pole Harness" don't know if this is really need, costs$65. Will I damage some module on the 4runner if I just tap into wiring harness? T

You'll at least need a converter box to split out the various light circuits and combine them into the form needed by the trailer. I have a U-Haul adapter in my '85, tapped into the turn/stop/brake light circuits and it has a 4-pin connector for the trailer. Problem is the Toyota has separate stop and turn signal bulbs/circuits while the trailer light has a single bulb for that.

So, what did you do about that issue of Toyota's separate stop and turn signal bulbs/circuits. If the trailer's brake lights doesn't lite up when braking, well, that can turn out to be a nasty situation.

 

You use a converter box to separate the individual Toyota wires and combine them into the 4 wires that the trailer wants to see.

 

you get this solved Robb? You should be able to adapt a kit from a near year vehicle to fit your needs. It maybe won't be plug and play into the tail light circuit like some Hopkins products are-but as long as you keep good track of which wire is which circuit it should not be overly difficult.

At worst you will combine wires leading to dash lights illumination when you press the brakes for example. I have to think the Hopkins customer service folks could lead you to a product that will work for you.

But you probably figured all this out by now...
