I just bought a 92 4runner after the engine in my 90 bit the dust. I'm hoping to swap a bunch of my 90 parts over but the 92 seems much smaller in size.

My other option is to take the 5 speed manual tranny and install it in my 90 which has an automatic. I'm not sure how I'll get a clutch pedal and the hydraulics in there.

If anyone has done this, I'd love to hear how.

It all unbolts. There isn't any tricks to it. The clutch and brake pedal are attached to the frame that unbolts from the firewall. The automatic brake pedal comes out the same way. The hydraulics can be removed as one piece without letting any fluid out it you want to. Take the pin out from the clutch master cylinder piston at the clutch pedal and then unbolt the clutch master cylinder from the firewall. Unbolt the slave cylinder from the tranny and pop out the fluid lines from the clips holding them down. it will all come out together. Just study it for a few minutes. Its really easy.

The only problem you may run in to is the wiring. The auto has a neutral safety switch and the manual has a switch at the clutch to only allow the starter to engage when the clutch is pressed in. Not sure what to tell you to do here.

 

What do you mean by the 92 seems smaller in size? What parts are you trying to swap over?

 

I hope he doesn't mean a 4cyl and v6.

Maybe the 92 is the same size. It just looks much smaller to me! I don't have them side by side and will do so tuesday. So I guess I'll just shut up about it until then.

Not sure how I'm going to proceed yet. I have done extensive work on the 90 and it was running and driving fantastically when the rod bearing went. I just hate that automatic tranny! I can't see anyplace to install the clutch pedal and related parts on the 90 from the 92. If that ends up being the case, I'll rebuild the 92 with all my 90 parts. Gotta see what's up with the new engine and such. I'll know all that in a couple of days and post it here.
