Hi Guys I need Your Help. Ok Im looking to upgrade to 33s on my pickup. Right now im running 235/75/R15 on my completely stock 1989 4x4 22re pickup. I am trying to decide if I should get the 33x12.50R15or the 33x10.50R15 But I am not sure Cuse I think 33x10 would look tall and skinny. Right now I am looking at the Toyo Tire Open Country M/T any good?. If someone could post a photo of the Toyos M/Ts of the 33x12 and 33x10 of there Toyota That would be great. Also if someone could tell me exactly what I need to do in order to make the 33s work? I heard I would have to Re gear it to 4.88 and also trim the fender what exactly does that mean? Like will I have to Cut the fender or just the inner part? Also I have another ? On the front and rear end are the Ring and Pinion the same. What I mean is If I where to re gear it can I put the gears from the front end into the rear end are Thay the same?

just posted some pics of 33x10.5 bfg at's in the pic thread at the top of this forum. they don't look skinny to me, but i put them on some rims with a 3.75" back space. they poke out just a little bit.

Little bit newer truck, but these are the 33x10.5's from the front. I like how the narrower tire looks, and I personally like how it performs better than 11.5" or 12.5" tires, just MO

 

I had One other ? Will I need To RE Gear it for the 33x10? It had a Automatic transmission in the truck when I bought it But I put a manual in it. The reason why I put it in was because I could only go about 55mph on the highway and maybe 65 when I was going down hill. And it was a GAS HOG!!!!. I also left the front and Rear end in it. Now since I put the manual in it and with the 235/75.R15 tires It does about 95 on the highway and it gets Alot Better MPG. And I know after I get the 33's I bet it will be like I have the Automatic back in it. So anyways do you guys think I will have to RE Gear it? Thanks Agian.

 

You will mos def need to re-gear it. if you get any width 33's regear it to 4.88. I'm in the middle of looking for some 4.56's for 31's. From what i've heard its a fairly complicated process but well well worth it. i suggest looking around on YT more to find what your looking for.

 

probably a good idea to think about a regear 4.88 would be nice. heck i am rolling 31's and a regear would be nice. how hard was the auto to manual swap? I do not run 33's (yet) but here are my 31 MT's

Let me tell you it wasn't easy I had to swap out the hole wiring harness ECU computer. At first I thought I could Just put the tranny in simple as that. But NOOO I found out that the ECU computer was freaking the injectors out I guess it wasn't putting in the right amount of gas in. Anyways Thanks for the pic. Also are your tires the Toyos M/T ?

 

My truck has 4:88s in it and it winds pretty tight at freeway speed. Due to being a leadfoot, it results in pretty ty gas mileage. I would consider 4:56s for 33s

33x10.5 on a 15x8 wheel.

 

33x10.5x15 should work finedepending on the amount of lift you have. Make sure you have the right gears! You will want to run 4.88 with 33's

well i have 31" dick cepeck muds and im sure i have 4.10's and its a little slow. i should have 4.56's but its not too bad. if you where to run 33"s with 4.10's, its gong to be extra slow lol. from what i have learned on this forum from many people is 31"s =4.56, 33"s= 4.88's, 35"s and up= 5.29's personaly i like wide tires so i would go 12.50's but if you daily drive and you want the best millage then i would say go 10.50's, they look just as good and work just as good

yea these are the Toyo M/T's I really like them. to give you a rough idea all my vehicles run toyo now. Dodge magnum, isuzu NPR and the toyota. my dad runs M/T's on his ford F250. Grandpa and my cousin both run runs toyo open country A/t's. you really can't go wrong with them. one of the reasons you dod not see them as much with the crawling crowd is they are about $20-$30 more per tire than say a KM2's. I will gladly pay the extra but that is personal preference. Just be sure your alignment is right or your gonna eat them up. Also want to add my dad got 50,000 miles on a F250 with his. thats pretty good for a heavy truck.

 

i ran 4.88's with 31" A/T's for a while and was spoiled by the extra power. i just installed some 33x12.5's and have a noticeable decrease in power again. it's almost like running bald A/T 31's with 4.10's. my little 22RE would feel like a slug with 4.10's pushing 33's.

 

my old truck... it had 33x12.5s R15 BFG ATs on it: (4" diff drop kit)





it had the v6 with stock gears... got about 18MPG, and would only really bog when going up hill (highway speeds were fine but if I hit an incline I'd have to downshift to 4th). The motor was on it's last leg but honestly the gearing wasn't bad at all.

22re with stock gears... DEFINITELY needs re-gearing, thing is a total dog, I haven't even driven a full tank of gas on it yet so I can't comment on mileage. just picked it up a few weeks ago and I need to fix some things before I start driving it regularly. I'll likely either re-gear or I'm throwing on some 33"s and pulling the body lift... I'm waiting until I put in some seat time with the current setup before I decide though.

 

Im gonna be putting 33x10.50 Km2s with 4.88 gearing. Im getting about 16-17 mpgs right now city/highway driving combined with 31s and 4.10s. but Im due for a huge tune up. Im hoping to be getting around 20 mpgs with a full tune up, 33x10.50s, and 4.88s
