Question Cant get truck into 4 wheel drive

I have a 95 pickup with a manual transmission. I was down on the beach today and decided to throw it int 4x4. The only problem was i could not get the little shifter to go into 4. I tried and tried ,locked and unlocked the hubs. But it would not go in. Any ideas what the problem could be guys.

if the clutch was done recently .. i'm wondering if the forks were properly positioned when they put the transfer case shifter back in. Assuming they pulled the shifters to drop the transmission.

yeah i was kinda thnking the same thing.. everything else has been working just fine though.so i assumed there was no problem there. is there anything else you can think of. it was working wheni put it on the trailer to take it home and replace my head gaskets, and i had the clutch done about a week after that. this is the first time i have needed it since then.

agreed, Vitaly. I'd take the shifters apart and double check the the forks.

Hell I don't remember, do you have a shop manual or anything? Lots of free online manuals around too.

pull the shifter boot from inside the cab, there will be 4 bolts holding the shifter plate. The shifter forks will look like two F s apposing each other. Take pictures and we'll try to help.

wait a minute, before you get too far ahead...

where you trying to put the transfer case in 4wd while sitting still?

lock the hubs, and start moving in first gear; maybe 5-10 MPH, and then try to move the shifter into 4H

Treed it with no luck.the shifter will move in a square area but thats it. I think something in the transfer case its unaligned.
