What is the best fluid for L52 Transmission?

Heard that Red Line makes the best tranny fluid, but I was wondering what viscosity is appropriate for a stock L52 and whether it can handle GL 5. Thanks.

It needs GL4. Not sure when you get into the synthetics, but the tranny takes GL4.

I use Mobil 1 Gear lube in my Differentials, Transmission and Transfercase. I have it used for years. My truck just turned 27 years old and no problems with any of my running gear.

do not use GL5, only use GL4. I made the mistake of using GL5 and it seems to be too 'slippery' for the synchro's and now i have to shift it like a bread truck (slow).

GL4
