Turn the steering wheel side to side as you gently try and turn the igniton.

i have done that so many times i lost count. up and down, side to side. im thinking my next step is to punch out the ignition with a chisel and try to get it to turn that way. any other ideas before i do that??

Are you sure you turned the wheel far enough? Sometimes if your on a hill or against a curb it can be REALLY hard.

have a new key cut,the spare may be to wore to much to work right. it sounds like you need an extra key anyway.

pop off the ignition cover, their should be a small "button" on the bottom of the ignition. press that in and the ignition will slide out. then turn the ignition tab with a set of needle nose...

Sounds like it's just bound up a bit on the lock. Follow Jay's advice and turn the wheel there has been a time or two I can remember on other cars that I've had to really turn the wheel to get the lock to release.

I had this happen to me once, but not in my runner. I had to pull the wheel all the way to the left with both hand and have some one turn the key for me....real pain.

Good luck!!!!
