One Tricky Bolt. 93' T4R 3.0

After looking through the forums on here to figure out how to replace my starter I found only a couple good threads, the best one IMO here..

https://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech/jimrockford_starter/jimrockford.htm

Most of the other ones that were well written were for the 3.4...ergo...Not much help.

But at any rate, this is thread is all well and good except for the fact that i don't have that much extension, or a socket with the universal joint that he describes using to access the bolt that goes from the starter into the block in Step 8.

Has anybody else found a way to remove this one bolt with out going through the front of the ifs? I can get a socket onto the bolt, problem is i can't put any leverage on it... any tricks or any advice would be extremely helpful as I want to get my new starter in asap.

Thanks much

I have spent more than a little time swearing at that bolt. It never seems to get easier for me. Since I have headers it's even worse. I need to remove my whole engine mount to remove the starter.

Have you removed the piece of the inner fender? I think it comes off with a few bolts and allows much more room to work. Aside from that I would think you need a knuckle joint on your ratchet. Sorry I'm not much help.

A extension or two to put the ratchet out in front of the front suspension works well. Ran into the same issue on a '94 p/u (22RE) and that did the trick:

Any and all help greatly appreciated ended up having to shell out the $14 for a 3/8" U-Joint, and I was able to get it done after that. Thanks for the input.

Awesome link!! thanks for the help, used a 3/8" U-Joint and like 2.5' of extension LOL but got her done, aside from that bolt overall project wasn't that bad, took about an hour and a half all together. Not bad for a first time
