Newbie - what makes my sunroof work?

Newbie - what makes my sunroof work?
Sunroof motor works back and forth, glass dont move. I took it out completly and I can see "worm" gears moving on both sides, but not shure how it connects to the glass brackets. does the plastic brackets have "teeth" to grab the worm gear? Or am I missing something. Tried to search and found nothing.
