what transmission with fit an '86 truck?

what transmission with fit an '86 truck?
so any year manual transmission in any series will work on my 86 pickup 22r carbed 2.4L 4x4?

can any bell housing bolt up to and transmission? sorry if im asking stupid questions, but i know nothing about transmissions

no not true: L series transmission out of 1st Gen trucks will be about 5" too short.

Its still possible to use though with a custom cross member
