1984 FJ60 Land Cruiser is making me mad!

So we bought this Land Cruiser a few years ago for a very small price. Had the clutch replaced, vehicle was perfectly running. Then it started to die at stop signs, only way to keep it going was to hold the choke out. So we took it into a toyota mech who didnt want to touch the cruiser, he was a 22r specialist and didnt want to mess with the 2F. Well, he suggested re building the carberator. My brother and I did that, replaced the fuel filter and put the carb back in. Now it will turn over but not start, only way to make it start was to pour gas directly into the carb, then it would die. We made sure there was fuel coming from the fuel pump and it had a half tank.

What could be the problem? I have been looking at buying a new carb, but the $1087.00 price from Spector is pretty scary. Any thoughts or ideas? Also, be cafeful playing around with these, I was literally on fire for about 15 seconds HAHA. Well thanks and I hope that someone can help me!!!

Dustin

Idle soleniod is bad if it idles only with the choke on, usually a wiring problem, not the soleniod itself. Somethining must have been done wrong during the rebuild on the carb though, is there any fuel in the sight glass on the front of the carb? Ih8mud will likely have the answer though. Good luck.
