2 Oil Pump Questions

I am re installing my oil pump after the new timing chain. I have two questions, there is an arrow on each of the oil pump gears, do these need to line up? or correspond with top dead center? Sorry you cant see them in the pics I wouldn't think they do but I want to make sure. Second the last pic is of the little rubber gasket that came with my timing chain kit for the oil pump, is that thing worth a ? or should i use the black rtv, the rtv seems a little sketchy because I dont want it gunking up the pump. Anyway thanks for the help guys, Doug.

You are mating two machined surfaces. Use the rubber gasket that came with it, not a bunch of goopy RTV.

thats what i thought but it seemed like i scraped some old rtv off after i removed the old gasket.
Any ideas on the arrows on the oil pump gears? Do they have to line up?

i had the same question ...the arrows do not need to line up , but you DO need to be able to see them...IE: they need to be visible when you pack the gears into the pump. I packed my gears with Vaseline as instructed by ENGNBLDR and used the gaskets supplied...no RTV.

the arrows, it doesn't make a different; they get out of sync anyway

the o-ring, YES, use it; RTV will NOT hold the oil pressure
