Help with random idle- 1988 Toyota 22re

Okay so I'm starting to prepare my yota for sale, getting her in top shape, and I noticed an old problem resurfaced again. I'll jump the t1 and e1 connectors, into limp mode, diagnostic mode, whatever, and idle will be at about 1200. So I'll adjust it to around 750 warm (it's a stick shift) and will idle perfectly. Then I'll disconnect the terminals, and go for a drive. It will bog a bit going uphill (fuel pump/o2 sensor???) then when I park it, the idle will either be super high, start high then SLOWLY drop to 1000 or below, or will idle perfectly, or will idle around 500. Does this sound like a bad tps/IAC? I'm stumped.

Try adjusting the timming, I used to have idling problems and that fixed it.

Will do. Thanks. And the correct timing is 6 degrees BTDC, right? I'm at work and don't have my manual with me.
