BUMP!

I was posed with a similar question by a friend: he asked me if a gen2 4runner crossbar hitch will bolt up to his 98 4runner without a tow package. I l researched both the gen2 & gen3 4runner subcategories, this original post is all I could find, with no result.

Anybody know? He's not with his rig now, so he can't park it nexta another at the moment.

Thanks

With a hot wrench and welder and some extra steel it can be made to fit

If you can`t measure I would say Check out some of the hitch catalogs and see if both vehicles call for the same part number

You just need to measure the frame distance inside to inside

See if the mounting holes will match up

Just how much work and time do you want to put in this project that is the question.

If nobody here comes up with a definitive answer you might try calling Marlin Crawler. They're super nice there and make hitch bumpers for both that tie into the frame just like a hitch. They do make two different ones for the two generations but I don't know why or what the differences are. I know that 4Runner ones won't swap, but really that's a different matter: the 3rd gen frame is different from the Taco, the 2nd Gen is the same as a pickup.

No.

A hitch for a leaf spring rear will not bolt up to a coil sprung rear and vice versa. Nor do generation gaps get crossed. They change stuff.

Period.

Thank you, all. Figured he was s.o.l., but was worth a shot.
