Strange Whistling Noise, not when clutch is in
Hello,
I have a 1987 22R Pickup and encountered a problem last night. Through each of my gears, there is a whistling noise that gets louder it seems the faster I go. It will stop at certain RPM's, it seems, but gets the loudest on the freeway. That being said, I don't believe it is wind or anything of that nature because it does it a 1 mph in first gear as well. When the clutch is in at any speed, it stops. It sounds drivetrain related, but can i please have someone tell me that it is not the transmission? I just replaced the head gasket less than a month ago and had an exhaust leak fixed from the manifold.
Any help with this matter would be much appreciated.

It may be your throw out bearing. Sometimes they get a bit squeaky and theres nothing you can really do other than replace it but you have to drop the tranny to replace it. That would explain why it goes away when you put the clutch in. Also, it may go away as the weather gets hotter, assuming its not already hot there.
